ACNH Switch 2 Edition & Free Update Land January 15, 2026
Guys, it's happening on January 15. Remember asking “Is ACNH done?” back in 2021 after that 2.0 update? I don't blame you for thinking that... especially because Nintendo directly said there wouldn't be anymore updates. But please go ahead and consider this your official reversal. On January 15, 2026, New Horizons returns with a Switch 2 Edition and a free update for all players, think precision decorating, bigger storage, new items, a new resort ran by Kapp'n and his family, and cobuilding dreamscapes in something called Slumber Island.

What’s New On Switch 2
The Switch 2 Edition brings a handful of quality of life enhancements that some players have been really happy to hear coming. These include:
-
4K In TV Mode (30 FPS Cap): Now we can really, really examine those fish and bugs in the museum
-
“Mouse-Style” Right Joy-Con 2 Controls: Place décor, edit Custom Designs, and handwrite bulletin-board notes with precision.
-
The Megaphone (New Item): Literally call out a villager’s name and track them down. Will be available for purchase at Nook's Cranny.
-
Online Sessions For Up To 12 Players: (when everyone is on the Switch 2 Edition) plus CameraPlay with a compatible USB camera for face-to-face island hangs.
The Free Update For Everyone (Yes, Everyone)
Even if you’re staying on Switch 1, you’re eating well on January 15.
Kapp’n’s Resort Hotel (On Your Pier)
At Kapp’n’s Resort Hotel on your pier, you’ll decorate themed guest rooms, style outfits with mannequins, and browse the Souvenir Shop run by Grams. Your designs earn Hotel Tickets you can redeem for furniture and clothing, and you can earn even more by crafting Tom Nook’s requested “island goods” at the dockside kiosk.

Resetti’s Reset Service
My main man Resetti is finally back, oh how I missed him. Resetti’s Reset Service lets you tidy on your terms. You can wipe the entire island, clean just the beaches, or target a custom area. Choose whether items are disposed of or sent straight to storage, and he’ll clear flowers and custom designs, too. It’s a builders dream service.

Slumber Island (For Nintendo Switch Online Members)
Make up to three side islands just for fun. Bring friends, tweak the time and weather, add bridges and inclines, and pick Small, Medium, or Large to fit your plan. Build boldly here, it’s a full creative multiplayer lab. It'll be extra delightful when you’re co-building and cracking up together.
New Items & Collabs (Zelda, Splatoon, LEGO)
The Souvenir Shop at Kapp’n’s Resort is going to be a Bells sink: new furniture, new clothing, and resort-themed goodies roll in and it seems like as the resort thrives, more collaboration items start showing up. You’ll also find classic Nintendo gear (Ultra Hand, retro consoles, etc.), and with Nintendo Switch Online you can even play select classic Nintendo games by interacting with those console items. (Dr. Mario, are you there?)
Zelda Collab: Tap compatible The Legend of Zelda amiibo to invite special guests and unlock themed outfits and décor. Triforce, rupees, heart containers, Majora’s Mask, Korok Forest flooring, and more. You can even meet Tulin and Mineru as visitable characters.

Splatoon Collab: Scan Splatoon-series amiibo to bring Cece and Viché to your island and find inky décor like the Splattershot, Squid Jukebox, Big Man bench, golden egg, crab tank, and other Splatsville-approved pieces.

LEGO Items: A cute line of LEGO furniture and clothing lands in Nook Shopping, with multiple style variations to decorate with.

Spotted In The Trailer (Fun, But Still Unconfirmed)
Many reputable breakdowns say bulk crafting is included (choose a quantity when crafting). Nintendo’s post doesn’t mention it, so treat this as likely but unconfirmed. We’ll update when it’s official.
From Nookmart, With Love
We’re thrilled to see islands roaring back to life. Start sketching your resort theme, plot those 12-player photo ops, and freshen up on your favorite KK Slider song. Nookmart will be ready and waiting to deliver your items to you when this update drops. We’ll see you on the pier January 15.
